A UNESCO World Heritage site in the Western Desert holding the fossil remains of Basilosaurus, an early whale that still had hind limbs. The skeletons are laid out along a marked desert trail exactly where they were found, with a small, genuinely good museum. It is a four-hour round trip from Cairo across rough desert track, and it is the best fossil site most people will ever walk through.
Leave Cairo at 07:00. The last forty kilometres are unpaved desert track and slow. Two to three hours walking the marked trail in the valley, lunch under shade, then the long drive back. Expect to be home after 18:00.
Send us the dates and how many people are travelling, by WhatsApp or the form on this page. We reply with a written itinerary and a fixed price, usually within a few hours. Confirming is a message, not a payment.
No. We ask for no deposit and take no payment to hold a date. Nothing is charged when you book and nothing is payable in advance - you settle with us in Egypt once the trip is running.
Tell us and we will change it, or cancel it, at no cost. There is no cancellation fee and no deadline to worry about, because nothing has been paid up front. If plans shift while you are already here, we will rearrange what we can on the day.
The tourist regions are heavily policed and we work in them daily. Your guide stays with you at every site. If you are travelling alone, tell us - we will match you with a guide accordingly.
Pairs well with
Egypt's only waterfalls, a lake in the desert, and sandboarding on the way back.
A hillside village of potters above the lake, and lunch in someone's garden.
Best seller The world's largest single-civilisation museum, then the plateau it was built to face.
