About these images
Site photography is drawn from Wikimedia Commons, where each file is released under a licence permitting commercial reuse with attribution. They are placeholders for launch: as we build a library from our own departures, these will be replaced.
If you are a rights holder and would like a credit corrected or an image removed, email the address in the footer and we will act on it the same week.

The home-page film
The one-minute film on the home page is made from photochrom prints of Egypt from the 1890s - photographs coloured by a lithographic process, published as travel views. They are held by the Library of Congress Prints and Photographs Division and are in the public domain.
The camera moves, colour grade and light effects are drawn in your browser; nothing in the film is third-party footage.
Music
The film's music is an excerpt of Johann Pachelbel's Canon in D, performed by the Strolling Strings of the United States Air Force Band (from The Strolling Strings 50th Anniversary, 2004). As the work of a US federal government ensemble, the recording is in the public domain. Sourced via Wikimedia Commons.
